How to Apply for a Reissue of Passport Online?

If an individual wants to apply for the reissue of the passport through online mode, one can follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Log on to the passport seva portal

Step 2: Register and create an account and login.

Step 3: Next, click on the “Passport Type” option. 

Step 4: Select “Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport”. 

Step 5: Select the reason for the passport reissue and the type of application. 

Step 6: Click on the “Tatkal” option if you need the passport immediately, and if not, click on the “Normal” option as the application type. 

Step 7: Select the booklet type and click on “Next”. 

Step 8: Enter your personal details, including residential address and be sure to save the entered details after each step. 

Step 9: Next, verify the details and fill out the self-declaration section. 

Step 10: Pay the application fee and set an appointment. 

How to Apply for a Reissue of Passport Offline?

You can apply for a passport reissuance offline if you prefer that. To apply, follow the steps given below: 

Step 1: Visit the Passport Seva online portal. 

Step 2: Click on the “Forms and Affidavits” option. 

Step 3: Download the passport reissue application form (Reissue of Passport form). 

Step 4: Fill out the application form. 

Step 5: Submit the application form and the required supporting documents at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra. 

Documents Required for Reissue of Passport

There are certain documents that an individual is required to submit when applying for the reissue of a passport. Given below is the list of general documents that are required by an individual for applying for a passport reissue.

It needs to be mentioned that the Passport Seva Kendra or the Passport Office may ask the applicant for additional documents apart from the ones mentioned, depending on the case:

Identity proof

A legitimate document with the applicant's complete name on it. This must be submitted because it should be listed on the person's passport as well as on official records.

Age proof

A document that confirms the applicant's date of birth is also required to be submitted. Birth certificate or a school leaving certificate that clearly mentions the date of birth serves the purpose of age proof.

Address proof

Additionally required is a document proving the applicant's residence. The address listed in the document and the one listed on the application form must match.

Photographs

Old passport booklet

The applicant is also required to submit his/her expired passport booklet before availing a new passport.

The individual is needed to submit self-attested copies of the first two and last two pages of the old passport booklet.

Appointment application receipt

The applicant must provide a printout of the final page that verifies the payment, time, and date of the appointment if the Passport Seva Kendra appointment was scheduled online.

Police Verification Process for Reissue of Passport

The Passport Office decides if police verification is necessary once the application for a new passport has been submitted. Pre- or post police verification is possible here. For instance, the Passport Office might only demand a post-police verification if the applicant's name, residence, and other personal information have not changed after the passport was issued.

To guarantee that the applicant has provided the proper information in the application, a pre-police verification may be necessary if the application has a different name, address, etc. Pre- and post-police verification may be necessary, depending on the passport office's records and the availability of the appropriate tools to conduct the requisite checks.

The exceptions for different types of police verification chosen by the Passport Office for reissue of passport are based on applications for:

1. Re-issue in the case of lost or misplaced or stolen passport
2. Re-issue in the case of complete name change

Passport Reissue for Special Cases

• Address Change: Applicants need to submit proof of new residence, the old passport, and a police clearance certificate to change the address on passport. 

• Lost and Damaged Passports: In case you have damaged or lost your passport, you are required to file an FIR or police report and may have to undergo additional steps. 

• When a Child Becomes Adult: You can apply for a passport reissue when the child turns 18. 

• Applicants from Abroad: Indian citizens residing abroad must follow a separate application process for passport reissuance.

How to Check Passport Reissue Application Status

You can check the passport reissue status either through Passport Seva website or through mPassport Seva mobile application.

To check the passport reissue status through the Passport Seva website, follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the official Passport Seva website.

Step 2: Select the option 'Track Application Status' present.

Step 3: On the next page, choose the type of application and fill in the required details like date of birth, file number, etc.

Step 5: Check the application status by clicking on the 'Track Status' option present on the page.

To check the passport reissue status through mPassport Seva, you need to download the mobile application on your phone. You need to login to the app and track the application status.

You can also check the passport reissue application status by sending an SMS on 9704100100 from your registered mobile number. You need to type 'STATUS FILE NUMBER' in the SMS.
